CONSTRUCTION
Rising Stars Business Academy has an additional component added which is the new Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Program, a 24-week program. The program model is 50% education, 40% construction, and 10% leadership. During the 24 weeks, participants receive a stipend, counseling, one-on-one job development, life skills, mentorship, and resources to help complete the program. In addition, they will complete a CPR and First Aid Red Cross Certified class where participants earn credentials that qualifies the holder to perform a life-saving procedure on someone who cannot breathe on their own or due to a cardiac event. In addition, they will be OSHA certified which is the Safety and Health Fundamental training given to employees in occupational safety and health to reduce incident rates for workers.
Furthermore, In this course they will complete the NCCER Core Program and receive a certification. What is NCCER? NCCER is the core program needed before branching off into a specific apprenticeship in whatever trade the participant decides to pursue. Whether it be Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, Framing or Drywall, participants are that much closer to completing their training. Participants will also receive onsite training on an actual construction site. Once the program is complete, they will be CPR certified, OSHA, and NCCER Core certified, and depending on academics standing receiving their High School Diploma.
This project received $1,500,000 (100% of its total cost) from a grant awarded under the Apprenticeship Building America grant, as implemented by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.
